How Companies Can Prepare for the Proliferation of E.U. ESG Rules

In May 2024, the E.U. Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) was officially adopted, requiring Member States to enact corresponding legislation by 2026. Companies doing business in the E.U. must prepare for these new laws, even while continuing to comply with existing environmental, social and governance (ESG) guidelines and laws. In a panel discussion during the Corporate Compliance Enforcement Conference, held by the Society of Corporate Compliance and Ethics, experts in the field of ESG and governance weighed in on how companies should prepare for the upcoming changes. They discussed the antecedents to the CSDDD, including the laws in France and Germany, and two additional ESG regulations that are likely to come into effect soon.
